I’m a street and documentary photographer based in Toronto, Canada. Largely self taught, my perspective and technique have developed through courses, workshops and collaborations with a variety of talented photographers.
I love the spontaneity of photography in the street, capturing moments that come and go in a heartbeat. And it’s helped by living in Toronto which has a vibrant street scene and is one of the most diverse cities in the world. For me, street photography is all about people photography - their interactions with each other and with their environment. Like many others, I try to tell stories with my photographs, and if my images evoke an emotional response in the viewer or prompt them to complete a narrative, then I feel that I’ve succeeded. When I spot interesting people or some striking light, I’ll happily wait for long periods for something compelling to unfold. I love the creativity that street photography offers at all stages, from seeing an unusual moment, to composing and capturing the event, and then processing the image to best convey its message.
Documentary work focuses largely on social issues. For example, PATH is an exploration of wealth disparity, consumerism, social isolation and the pace of urban life as exemplified within the encapsulated environment of Toronto's underground complex of walkways and shopping arcades. Additional collaborative projects have centered on the Little India neighbourhood of Toronto and the rich untold stories of Elders in our society.
